Priyanka Chopra is one of Bollywood’s most famous actresses and possibly, the most successful actor from India to make it big in Hollywood. Chopra has served as an inspiration for men and women alike and her story and rise to success has often been a subject of intense discussion on social media. Hence, it came as welcome news when the actress unveiled her autobiography, Unfinished.
Here are some shocking things she revealed in her memoir:
In her book, Unfinished, Priyanka Chopra revealed that she was horribly bullied for her looks when she was studying in the US. There were horrible things written about her in the school’s bathroom walls and she was told stuff like: “Brownie, go back to your country”.
She also reveals that she was diagnosed with depression after her father’s death in 2013. Her dark times lasted for five years. “As always, work was my therapy. I put all of my grief and a piece of my soul into that character and that film. It’s what drove me and it’s what allowed me to continue functioning,” the actor writes.
Priyanka Chopra also spoke about cancel culture and the time she was trolled for wearing a dress during a meeting with PM Narendra Modi in Berlin. “Because I was promoting ‘Baywatch’ that day, I was in a dress, not a sari. It was knee-length, high-necked, and long-sleeved. When we posted the photos to social media, there was a furore around the fact that I was meeting with the prime minister with my legs exposed… It was one of the first times I became global news, and I swear that was not the way I wanted to make global news. I was angry and confused. My response to the anger was to take a picture of my mom and me out at dinner that night in our short skirts and with our legs crossed, and to post it online with the caption ‘It runs in the family’,” she wrote.
There have been persistent rumours that the actress underwent plastic surgery. She writes that she underwent a treatment for a polyp in her nasal cavity which did not go as planned. “While shaving off the polyp, the doctor also accidentally shaved the bridge of my nose and the bridge collapsed. When it was time to remove the bandages and the condition of my nose was revealed, Mom and I were horrified. My original nose was gone. Following the polypectomy, I had several corrective surgeries, and over time, my nose normalized. While it took a few years of seeing a stranger gazing back at me every time I looked in the mirror, I’ve gotten accustomed to this face,” she writes about the time she was called ‘Plastic Chopra’.
She also opened up about the disgusting people she has met in the film industry like a director who asked her to make changes to her body. “After a few minutes of small talk, the director/producer told me to stand up and twirl for him. I did. He stared at me long and hard, assessing me, and then suggested that I get a boob job, fix my jaw, and a little more cushioning to my butt,” she writes.
Perhaps, the most shocking revelation is that despite being such a talented actress, she was asked to strip for a song. “The director suggested me to speak to my stylist, so I called him and briefly explained the situation, then passed on the phone to the director. Standing right in front of me, the director said: “Jo bhi ho chaddiyyan dikhni chahiyen. Nahi toh log picture kyun dekhne aayenge? (whatever happens, panties should be seen. Otherwise, why would people come to watch the movie?),” she writes.
