It was bound to happen and it was evident to anyone with half a brain that Amazon Prime Video’s Tandav was going to be a controversial show. However, the heat and ire it faced on social media post its release was certainly unprecedented. There were campaigns carried out against the show for allegedly hurting religious sentiments.
Now, the UP Police have questioned a top Amazon executive for nearly four hours regarding the allegations levelled at the show.
Tandav stars Saif Ali Khan, Guauhar Khan, Sunil Grover and Mohd. Zeeshan Ayyub in key roles. According to the complaints raised against the show, Tandav had apparently shown Hindu gods and goddesses in a derogatory manner. That’s not all – members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have also criticised the show.
A police officer told Reuters that Amazon India’s head of original content, Aparna Purohit, had told the UP Police that an apology had been issued in the wake of the controversy and that certain scenes from the show had also been edited out.
“You never know when you will be next in line for a scene that you never thought would be offensive,” a Bollywood producer told HT under conditions of anonymity.
