Veteran actress Surekha Sikri had starred in many award-winning and critically acclaimed movies but she gained national fame when she played the role of a conservative grandmother in the breakout TV hit, Balika Vadhu. Today, the industry veteran breathed her last in the early hours of the morning. She was 75.
The National-Award winning actor had been suffering ill health for a while now due to complications arising from her second brain stroke. Following a cardiac arrest this morning, the actress died and the news was confirmed by her agent.
“Three-time national award-winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke,” the actor’s agent Vivek Sidhwani said.
“She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram,” he added.
The news has come as another shock for the film industry which is already reeling from the news of the deaths of industry veterans like Dilip Kumar and Soumitra Chatterjee. The death of filmmaker Raj Kaushal had also hit the Hindi film and TV industry particularly hard.
