There’s finally some good news floating around Old Trafford as Manchester United were finally able to sign a big name in this summer transfer window. The Danish international has verbally accepted a three-year contract to be a part of Erik Ten Hag’s Manchester United revolution. The signing is not yet complete, with medicals and other formalities still to be carried out but Eriksen is not set to become one of a host of new recruits at the club this transfer window.

The former Tottenham playmaker became a free agent after his short-term deal with Brentford came to an end at the start of this month. Clubs like Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool also showed their interest in the midfielder but they shifted their attention to other targets that left United as front-runners for the 30-year-old. Eriksen’s arrival at old Trafford felt like a welcome boost to Ten Hag who is also dealing with the fall-out of Cristiano Ronaldo making his intention to leave the club.

What does Eriksen’s signing mean for United and Ten Hag?

Ten Hag was keen on signing Eriksen as he told the board that he is one of the top targets along with Frankie De Jong as a part of their midfield overhaul. That is the area he considers most in need of reinforcement since taking over the club. With Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard all leaving after their contracts expired, the Eriksen transfer is exactly what United needed to get started. The Manchester United boss sees Eriksen as capable of playing in all kinds of midfield roles especially CDM and No.10 which gives him more options.

Apart from the midfield, Defensive reinforcement is also something that Ten Hag is looking at. Feyenoord left-back Tyler Malacia is due to complete his medical ahead of becoming the first signing for United in this summer transfer window, while a bid has also been made for Ajax center-back Lisandro Martinez.
