One of the biggest and brightest talents in football today is Erling Haaland. The 19-year-old striker from Norway has proved to be a game-changer for his side Borussia Dortmund and is being hailed as THE FUTURE STAR of this Beautiful Game. Haaland has managed to score nineteen goals and set up four in his twenty appearances in the league this season. This guy is simply a phenomenon and as many say, is a “Generational Defining Talent”. Here are some of things you might not know about the teenage sensation.

1. Born and Bred in the city of Leeds

Erling Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge used to play for Premier League clubs like Leeds United and Manchester City. Haaland was in fact borng during his father’s time at Leeds in 2000 and since then, young Erling has been Leeds supporter. In one of his interviews, he revealed his interest to play in the English Premier League with Leeds but it might just be a distant because a team like Leeds United could perhaps never afford a player like Haaland, currently at his prime.

The Norwegian broke the record for the highest standing jump at the age of just five years. It was recorded on the 22nd of January 2006 with a jump of 1.63m. Haaland still holds this record of the insane standing jump in the age category of five years.

As we all know, Haaland who is 6.4ft tall and powerful spends many hours to stay in prime shape and be one of the fastest men on a football pitch. Genetics though may have played it’s part because even as a teenager, Haaland had the physique of a fully grown man which became a reason for his teammates giving him the nickname – ‘Manchild’ during his time at Molde.

Haaland did the unthinkable when he scored nine goals for his country Norway in a match against Honduras at the FIFA Under 20 World Cup. His team ended up winning the game 12 – 0 and Haaland broke the record for the most goals scored in a match in the competition. Even though Norway made their way out of the tournament soon after, Haaland remained as the competition’s top scorer.

5. Ole was at the wheel for his success

Ole Gunnar Solkskjaer signed a sixteen-year-old Haaland at Molde back in 2016. He justified his signing with a goal on debut against Volda, and his form never seems to have dropped since. In his two years with Molde, he scored twenty goals in fifty games. Ole is said to have a key role in developing Haaland to be consistent over the years. In one of his interviews, he said, “Ole had a very big impact on my life and he taught me a lot, He’s one of the reasons I’m the player I am today. He’s a good person and a good coach.”

In 2020, Haaland’s estimated net worth was already above eight million dollars. The Dortmund striker has a current market value of EIGHTY million Euros which only heading in one direction in the near future. Almost every top European club is interested in signing the young Forward and there is no doubt that these clubs are going to have to splash the cash to sign the Norwegian superstar.

7. Zlatan is his Idol

In one of his interviews, Haaland mentioned that he had a lot of role models and has looked up to plenty of footballers but his biggest role model is Zlatan Ibrahimović. He said, “The way he became so good, the way he plays. He’s also Scandinavian, so someone has to take over from him!”

8. Flow Kingz

Every athlete has a passion other than the sport they play, for Haaland, it was rapping. He even has a rap name – Flow Kingz and is also really into his R&B music. Erling has mentioned to the press in the past that his favorite track is the Champions League anthem and has even been spotted listening to it while traveling.
