It’s the final gameweek of the season in Premier League fantasy football, closing the curtains on one of the most hectic and topsy-turvy campaigns of FPL. Matchday 38 presents fantasy managers with one final opportunity to make a push in their mini-leagues and climb up the rankings, and there are plenty of exciting players that could haul on the last day of the season.
Here are our picks for gameweek 38.
GK: Alisson (LIV) – £6.1m
Liverpool have kept the most clean sheets in the Premier League this season (20) and have also conceded the fewest home goals in the competition (8).
DEF: Trent Alexander-Arnold (LIV) – £8.4m
Having been rested in mid-week, Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to start for Liverpool on the final day of the season, and the Englishman could also be a differential captaincy candidate for the Reds’ fixture at home to Wolves.
DEF: Andrew Robertson (LIV) – £7.3m
Although Andy Robertson hasn’t started either of Liverpool’s last two fixtures in the league, the left-back could be an excellent differential for gameweek 38. Robertson is owned by only 11.4% of managers and has blanked only once since gameweek 18.
DEF: Joao Cancelo (MCI) – £7.2m
Joao Cancelo has registered a clean sheet or an assist in seven of his last nine appearances for Manchester City in FPL, and the Portuguese full-back is the fifth-highest points scorer this season with 200 points.
MID: Bruno Guimares (NEW) – £5.0m
At just 2.1% ownership, Bruno Guimares is one of the best differentials in FPL ahead of the final game of the season. The Brazilian is averaging 5.9 points per match since his January arrival, scoring five goals and bagging an assist.
MID: Kevin de Bruyne (MCI) – £12.1m
With Manchester City needing a win on the final day of the season, Kevin de Bruyne is a must-have for fantasy managers. The Belgian midfielder has six goals and four assists in his last seven starts for City, amassing 67 points in that period.
MID: James Maddison (LEI) – £6.9m
James Maddison has three goals and two assists in his last three appearances for Leicester City – bagging 33 points – and could return another major haul with the Foxes taking on Southampton at home on matchday 38.
MID: Heung-Min Son (TOT) – £11.1m
Heung-Min Son has five double-digit hauls in his last nine appearances for Tottenham and takes on a Norwich defence in gameweek 38 that has conceded a league-high 79 goals.
MID: Mason Mount (CHE) – £7.7m
Mason Mount should start for Chelsea on matchday 38 after being rested in mid-week, and the Englishman faces a Watford side that have already been relegated and have conceded 12 goals in their last five matches.
FWD: Danny Welbeck (BHA) – £7.5m
Danny Welbeck has scored two goals and bagged three assists in his last four matches for Brighton, scoring 30 points, and could be an inspired differential option for fantasy managers ahead of the Seagulls’ home fixture against West Ham United in gameweek 38.
FWD: Eddie Nketiah (ARS) – £5.7m
Although Arsenal have capitulated in their last two away matches against Tottenham and Newcastle, Eddie Nketiah remains one of the best budget picks for the forward line. Arsenal take on Everton at home in a must-win game for the Gunners on the final day of the season, and Nketiah bagged two goals and 13 points in his previous outing at the Emirates Stadium.
With Tottenham playing a must-win match against 20th-placed Norwich City in gameweek 38, the armband goes to Heung-Min Son. The Tottenham attacker is also chasing Mohamed Salah for the golden boot on the final day and has 42 points in his last four starts.
