Fantasy Premier League 2022-23: Gameweek 10 Preview – Best Team, Captain, Transfers

Fantasy Premier League 2022/23 - Gameweek 10
A A A tT

Gameweek 9 was one of the most high-scoring weeks in FPL this season, with three players getting hat-tricks and Erling Haaland bagging 23 points. We could see that trend continue in GW10 for the Norwegian as Manchester City welcome Southampton at home.

The games are coming thick and fast in FPL with the World Cup just around the corner.

Transfer Tip

Aleksandar Mitrovic to Callum Wilson

Aleksandar Mitrovic limped off in the first half against Newcastle last week with an injury, and the Fulham striker may spend the next few weeks on the sidelines. There are no obvious replacements for Mitrovic unless you upgrade to Gabriel Jesus or a Liverpool forward, but one player FPL managers could look at for this period is Newcastle striker Callum Wilson.

The Englishman has three goals in four starts with a non-penalty xGi of 0.88 per 90 and excellent fixtures in the next three matches with home games against Brentford and Everton, as well as an away trip to Manchester United, who are amongst the worst five defences in the league this season.

Player Watchlist

Patson Daka (5.7m)

One striker that has quietly slipped under the radar this season in FPL is Patson Daka. The Leicester forward is owned by just 0.8% of managers but has scored two goals in his last three appearances. He also has phenomenal underlying numbers with a non-penalty xGi of 0.69 per 90 to go along with great fixtures until the World Cup. Daka faces Bournemouth in GW10 before taking on Crystal Palace and Leeds at home in his next two encounters.

The question with the Zambian international is whether he will start over Jamie Vardy for Leicester. The striker was on the bench for the Foxes’ first five games this season and only came on as a substitute in their 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest. His uncertainty of minutes means FPL managers shouldn’t be racing out to get him this week, but if his starts are assured Daka could be an excellent option leading up to the World Cup.

GW9 provided a pertinent lesson to Fantasy Premier League managers: always captain Erling Haaland. Despite playing Manchester United at home, Haaland was unstoppable, scoring his third-consecutive Premier League hat-trick at the Etihad to go along with his two assists, taking his haul to a season-high 23 points.

Haaland’s heroics burned all those managers who put the armband on Mohamed Salah, and most FPL players should have learned their lesson by now with the captaincy. With Manchester City playing Southampton at home in GW10, the captaincy is a no-brainer for this week, with no other options providing the same upside as the 22-year-old in the game.

Shivaan’s FPL Team Selection for GW10: No transfers, Haaland Captain

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 10

Despite my disastrous wildcard in GW9 that brought me just 70 points and a 350k rank fall, I have decided to stick with my squad for one more week and make no transfers.

I played the wildcard to gain ground over 4-5 weeks, and I will stick with the same group for Fantasy Premier League GW10 despite the massive red arrow last time. The fitness of Aleksandar Mitrovic is the only main concern at the moment, but if the Serbian is unavailable in GW10, one of my bench players – Pereira, Williams, or Guehi – will come on to replace him.

As for the captaincy, it has to be Erling Haaland. Best of luck for FPL Gameweek 10!
