Fantasy Premier League 2022-23: Gameweek 11 Preview – Best Team, Captain, Transfers

Fantasy Premier League 2022/23 - Gameweek 11

Injuries to heavily-owned players such as Reece James, Alexandar Mitrovic, and Trent Alexander-Arnold have thrown a spanner in the works for Fantasy Premier League managers, and there are plenty of talking points to discuss ahead of GW11.

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 11 Preview – Best Team in FPL

Transfer Tip

Trent Alexander-Arnold/Reece James to Ivan Perisic

FPL managers with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James were handed a raw deal over the last week as both English right-backs suffered injuries for their clubs, ruling them out for the next two weeks. With the games coming thick and fast at this stage of the season, transferring them out from your FPL team has to be a priority to maximise your resources.

There aren’t many defenders in fantasy football that are worth the premium money right now, and GW11 is a sub-optimal time to be shopping for your backline, with City away to Liverpool and Kieran Trippier facing Manchester United away. One player FPL managers can target this week is Tottenham wing-back Ivan Perisic. The Croatian has been rested in each of Spurs’ last two fixtures and has an excellent fixture at home to Everton in GW11.

Player Watchlist

Phil Foden (8.1m)

Manchester City have Liverpool away in GW11 and a blank fixture in FPL in GW12, but the defending champions have an incredible run of four fixtures after that ahead of the World Cup. The Cityzens have three home games against Brighton, Fulham and Brentford, as well as a trip to bottom-placed Leicester City before the World Cup and tripling up on their assets might be the way to go during that run.

Erling Haaland and one Manchester City defender will be in most FPL managers’ teams, but the third player on the radar should be Phil Foden. Foden is the highest-scoring midfielder in the game with 62 points and has started each of Manchester City’s nine league games, scoring six goals and providing four assists.

Best Captain

NPxGi per 90

Haaland (12.2 m)

Southampton (H)

Kane (11.4 m)

Everton (H)

Jesus (8.0 m)

Leeds (A)

Despite Erling Haaland’s electric start to the season with 15 goals and three assists in nine appearances, there is still a captaincy decision to be made in fantasy football this week.

Haaland has the toughest fixture on paper with a trip to Liverpool away at Anfield in GW11, a ground where Manchester City do not have the best record in the Premier League. The Norwegian is yet to blank this season in Fantasy Premier League, but his ceiling may be limited for this week due to the tense nature of the tie.

Two other options which could be viable alternatives to Haaland this week are Harry Kane and Gabriel Jesus. Kane has eight goals and two assists in his last eight PL appearances and has the standout fixture in GW11 from an FPL perspective, at home to Everton. Gabriel Jesus was rested in midweek for Arsenal’s Europa League game in Norway and has the best underlying numbers in the league after Haaland, with a non-penalty xGi of 0.82 per 90 minutes.

Shivaan’s FPL Team Selection for GW11: Trent Alexander-Arnold to Ivan Perisic, Haaland Captain

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 11

My wildcard team in GW9 continues to cost me points and transfers as two of my premium defenders – Trent Alexander-Arnold and Reece James – picked up injuries to keep them on the sidelines for the next few weeks.

With Manchester City and Arsenal having a blank fixture in GW12, Alexander-Arnold and James must be shipped out in GW11 to bring in players that will feature over the next two game weeks in Fantasy Premier League. Of my two free transfers, one will be used to replace Alexander-Arnold with Ivan Perisic of Tottenham. I am yet to decide what to do with the second transfer, and a clearer idea of the injury timelines of Mitrovic or Reece James will likely sway my moves.

If Reece James needs to be shipped out, Eric Dier is one of the best options to replace him and double up on the Tottenham defence, while Mitrovic can make way for Callum Wilson of Newcastle or Ivan Toney.

As for the captaincy, it has to be Erling Haaland. Best of luck with your FPL Team Gameweek 11!
