A Supercomputer has predicted that France will win the 2022 FIFA World Cup, tipping that Les Bleus will retain the trophy and repeat their success from 2018 in Qatar later this year.

Using an algorithm that simulated the results of the entire 2022 FIFA World Cup 1000 times, the results suggested France are the team that is most likely to win the tournament with a 17.93% probability. If France win the World Cup, it would be their third title after 1998 and 2018, making them just the third team in history after Italy and Brazil to retain the trophy.

France enjoyed a terrific run in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, beating Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the Round of 16 and defeating Croatia 4-2 in the Final in Moscow. Les Bleus boast some of the best depth of talent in world football, with stars such as Kylian Mbappe, Paul Pogba, Antoine Griezmann, and the returning Karim Benzema set to feature for Didier Deschamps’ side in Qatar.

The team with the second-highest chance of lifting the trophy in Qatar is Brazil, with Tite’s men given a 15.73% chance of winning the World Cup. Brazil’s previous triumph on the World stage came in the 2002 World Cup in Korea, and the Selecao are blessed with incredible attacking players such as Neymar, Vinicius Jr, Gabriel Jesus, Richarlison, and Raphinha.

Spain are third on the list with an 11.53% probability of winning the World Cup for the first time since 2010, while Gareth Southgate’s England have an 8.03% chance of bringing football home.
