UFC President Dana White says that Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier’s trilogy fight will take place in the summer of 2021

Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will face each other in the octagon for the third time to complete the trilogy. McGregor won the first match back in 2014 but Dustin did well to settle the score in January 2021. It was obvious that these two would face each other for the third time and UFC President Dana white is also now ready for the bout, telling reporters “When you have two guys who want it that badly, you’d do it”. Poirier added, “It’s 1 – 1. I knocked him out; he knocked me out. The rubber match, it does makes sense”

This match becomes very crucial in the Lightweight division which has been waiting for a new title holder since the retirement of Khabib Nurmagomedov, who is still unsure about his future. Even if The Eagle decides to vacate the title, Dustin doesn’t want the rubber match to be a title bout. The Diamond believes that McGregor has been absent for a while and lost twice since his return and does not deserve a title shot.

A match between McGregor and Poirier is full of surprises. In the first bout, McGregor was the dominant force and finished things for Dustin in the first round. Seven years later, Poirier completely owned McGregor inside the Octagon but the Irishman was excused by the fans as he made his return to the octagon after a year but has also lost two of his three fights since his return in 2018.

Everything depends on McGregor for the trilogy match. It depends on whether the Notorious will be prepared well enough to defend Dustin Poirier’s leg kicks which was the highlighting story at UFC 257. IF at all McGregor is prepared for the leg kicks, things depend upon his American opponent, whether he’ll have a new trick up his sleeve this time.

The stage is almost set for this intriguing bout between the best in the featherweight division and could be a turning point for both the fighter who have their eyes on the championship.
